Research Computing Education at Pitt (RCE@Pitt) is an initiative from the School of Computing and Information to provide graduate students, postdocs, researchers, faculty, and staff the opportunity to learn the computing skills and techniques needed for data and computationally intense research.
Data Basics Workshop
The Data Basics workshop will provide an introduction to many of the essential topics and techniques for research computing.
Data Basics is an 8 part workshop covering the following topics:
- Data Centric Python with Jupyter - An introduction to the Python programming language with a focus on the manipulation of data. Additionally, this introduces project Jupyter, a set of tools for interactive computing and data science.
- Computing Environments and the Unix Shell - An introduction to the Linux command line for basic file manipulation and the Git version control system.
- Data Processing with Python and Pandas - Using the Pandas data processing library for the Python programming language.
- Data Visualization with Python - Using the Matplotlib data visualization library for the Python programming language.
- Relational Databases and SQL - An introduction to the SQLite relational database and Structured Query Language (SQL)
Spring 2024 Workshop Details
Dates: May 13th - 16th from 9am - 4pm (with 1-hour lunch break)
Location: This will be an in-person workshop (No Zoom option).
