Data Basics Workshop

The Data Basics workshop will provide an introduction to many of the essential topics and techniques for research computing.

Data Basics is an 8 part workshop covering the following topics:

  1. Data Centric Python with Jupyter - An introduction to the Python programming language with a focus on the manipulation of data. Additionally, this introduces project Jupyter, a set of tools for interactive computing and data science.
  2. Computing Environments and the Unix Shell - An introduction to the Linux command line for basic file manipulation and the Git version control system.
  3. Data Processing with Python and Pandas - Using the Pandas data processing library for the Python programming language.
  4. Data Visualization with Python - Using the Matplotlib data visualization library for the Python programming language.
  5. Relational Databases and SQL - An introduction to the SQLite relational database and Structured Query Language (SQL)

Spring 2024 Workshop Details

Dates: May 13th - 16th from 9am - 4pm (with 1-hour lunch break)

Location: This will be an in-person workshop (No Zoom option).
